Badgers hold on to lead for 69 minutes for opening match victory
There was a great start to the game with Captain Matthew Whitehouse dribbling in from the right to set up Jacob Whale for his first goal inside the first minute. The game then settled down to a pattern of missed opportunities and scrappy play by both sides with Yardley relying on their outfield adult to create chances but Isabella in our goal had little to do. After half time Yardley came at us more strongly. Excellent tackling by our young defenders, Barney Martin and Aodhan Miller, 2 goal line clearances by Ethan Couperthwaite and our MVP Euan Bickers, and 2 or 3 good saves by Isabella, kept us ahead all the way to the end with Mums and Dads nervously looking on. Overall a fairly satisfactory start but there needs to be a lot of work on the training ground to use the whole width of the pitch in our attacks.
