On a chilly but sunny afternoon at the excellent Eastern Rd Southall pitch, Bournville put in an excellent performance against some strong individuals. We played very well as a team to get the win despite having less of the ball.
Nobody had a poor game and all listened to the half time team talk about using the width of the pitch when attacking and keeping shape when defending. With a lack of defenders in the starting line up, Matt Whitehouse and Jack Batty fitted well into this role. A great move just after half time included a great ball through the inside right channel a clever switch to the left where Jose dawn Zac making a run through the middle. Zac showed great composure to flick the ball over the goalie who had gone down to block his path.
The winner was not much of a spectacle, more of a goal mouth scramble resulting in the ball finding its way between the goalie's kickers and dribbling over the line. Nat claimed the assist and Jose touched it last before the keeper .
An excellent performance all round and some solid defending by Harry Matt Jack and Josh Appleby in particular who tracted back effectively from striker and made some great tackles and clearances when Edgbaston pushed for an equaliser in the last few minutes. Edg didn't score so Josh wins man of match for me.
