It was a bright sunny morning in Edgbaston, the ladies 2's made their big return and wasn't it a great one! They began their warm up in the shadows of the hockey pitch where they would face their first opposition of the season. After having an absolute blast of a summer with non stop parties and socials I was surprised they had any energy left (lol I wish), but boy did they put up a fight!
The opposition looked prepared with their scarily synchronised warm up, but fear not, we were ready. The whistle blew and the twos were unleashed. With plenty of legs to get us through we had our weapon (5 SUBS!!!!! ..a ladies record it has to be), we never stopped fighting for the ball. First half and the score was 1-something (maybe 2 or 3) to them but we had an absolute shock of a goal from the captain after an incredible set up from our super star newbie Maria.
Following a motivational speech and some technical tips from coach Bailey we headed out for the second half. Some blinding saves from Jenni and some incredible work from the defence to get the ball out of the D. A blinder of a goal from the one and only Caris and some amazing runs from the team outfield. Some of the team obviously missed the pitch a lot, feeling the need to do dive and fall across it to get close and personal (Alice, Esme, Maria :P) With the heat rising and some incredible runs up and down the pitch we realised how amazing it was to have subs! After a year out Nikki was an absolute rocket out in centre mid and with our seasoned 2's pros, our 1's super team and our newbies we had a force to be reckoned with. Yes, the score did not reflect the effort each and every one of the team put in but, WHAT A MATCH TO START OFF WITH!!
"200% effort" H.Bailey
"loved the atmosphere" S.Powell (Jnr)
"had a great time and a lot of fun" A.Dunbar

A note and a quote from your captain: I'm honestly so so so excited for this season with you all, keep being amazing and remember:
