tremendous play unfortunately not reflected by the score line

It was the return visit to Old Hales for the Ladies 2nd XI despite the monsoon-like rain and strong winds.

Bournville capitalised on first push back despite the difficult conditions with searching runs on the wings by Lizzie Smyllie and Tasha Simmonds backed up by Tessa Ross and Rosie Jane. Old Hales fought back bunching down the middle creating marking problems for Bourns. But Sophia Powell, Helen Channer and Clare Bond formed a pillar of strength at the back to defend goal sending in the direction of Amy Watson who found her mark in the swift form of Lizzie making a brilliant run up the left. She was well supported by Rosie taking the ball up the centre. A few fantastic shots on goal followed with hearts in mouths but unfortunately none found their target.

Beautiful play followed between Rom Woolner, Katie White and Kat Smith to drive the ball up the pitch. Old Hales tackled successfully counter attacking and threading the ball through to find its mark, 1-0 to the home side. The first half came to a tense close as brilliant defending from the back four and daring diving saves from Cath Hood stopped the ball finding the back of the net.

The second half started with a bang, with excellent tackling from Tessa, Kat, Amy and Anna kept the ball high, threading up the left, finding Sarah Powell, hitting a beautiful ball onto the end of Lizzie's stick which was well saved by the goalie. Bournville dominated the second half with plenty of shots on goal before Old Hales came storming down the pitch on the counter attack. Despite numerous shots on goal, the ball did not find its mark due to brilliant defending from Amy, Sophia, Helen and Cath. Both Bourns and Old Hales battled hard, but capitilised on an error to hit the back of the net. Bournville continued to dominate after the reset but the final whistle blew.

Much to think about for training following this match but so much excellent play, commitment and teamwork to be extremely proud of.

Ultimately, Bournville battled hard despite the weather, dominating play for the majority of the second half and deserved much more than what the score-line reflected.
