It was bound to be a close game as Bournville 2’s played West Brom 1’s at home, with only goal difference keeping Bournville above them in the league. The fixture started in good spirits with the heavy rain having eased and George somehow knowing about the amended start time.
The game progressed with both teams evenly matched, Bournville holding a strong line and testing West Brom’s ability to clear the ball, but they seemed up to the challenge. Both teams were forcing their way forward but unable to get quality shots on goal. The West Brom striker then managed to sneak a reverse shot past Adam to take the lead, their second goal was disallowed following a prompt whistle for a foul. The rain now fell heavily and would remain for the match, both teams were committed; Joe and Nat working together and making some great runs, Sam making magical dribbling runs with the ball seemingly glued to his stick (until the glue wore off).
Bournville were pushing for the goal when Tom Tres fires one into the post for Roger to hit and kick past the keeper but owning up to the umpires. Eventually a chance came through pressure around their D, the ball came loose, Roger expertly pulling it back to the flick spot for Nat to stroke into the goal.
In these conditions this felt like we had taken the lead and the team were committed to push for the win and stop them taking the lead again, Tres with his sliding tackle to stop their attacker, Chris with his crunching tackles and bursts form the back and Ethan sweeping up anything left. Even Connor coming on from the bench nursing an injury couldn't help the breakthrough. The result ended 1-1 with a good performance in difficult conditions, lets hope for a drier day next Saturday.
