6 Points out of 9

Bournville arrived today after a thrashing of Kings Heath 1st last week.  Pacman released his usual pre-match PacCast (I didn’t listen, but I’m sure it was riveting as always).  Warm up was rather eventful- with Connor found behind a bush on his haunches, in a classic vomiting position, but it was actually his technique for overcoming a poorly knee (I thought he was just avoiding the jog).  His knee had ended the game for him, or had it…

We proceeded with our well adopted half court press.  Olton had no idea what to do. Rodger picked off many the misplaced pass, only to bury it into the keeper’s pads. Fair to say, we were on top.  The breakthrough finally came after Alex attempted a reverse shot strike, which was going well wide, just for Sam to poke it in at the back post.  A Ruud Van Nistelrooy poacher goal. The remainder of the first half was solid from us, with a few notable moments: a Parson’s toe kept us in it, Tom completely missed a slap and Rodger missed a few more chances.

After a few invigorating half time words from Pacman, we were into the second half.  We again, opted for the half court press. Olton were again dumb founded, and could offer nothing.  However, Olton managed to fumble their way back into the match, with a horribly struck strike bouncing over Parsons.  Pacman was on the line, and in a heroic manner attempted to baseball hit it off the line, only to edge it into the ground, and then into his own net.  Not his finest moment, although Ethan loved it.  This killed our confidence, and we allowed them to work themselves back into the game.  Some top notch defending from Ethan, Pacman, Pete and Tom keeping us in it.  Oh, and George, when he wasn’t blowing on the bench.

Minutes were running out, when poorly- knee-Connor decided it was his time.  He slowly jogged/walked onto the pitch, and what a moment this would prove to be.  With one his first touches he wasted an excellent opportunity when the ball popped up to him at the back post.  Fortunately for him, he gets another chance, and this time Connor skilfully rounds the keeper, and puts into the back of the net. With that completed, he again leaves the field.

Bournville hold out to take the game 2-1.  In the process young Sam Wise shoulders an opponent in the face, Pete makes a cynical foul for a green card (last week that was DOD worthy!!) and a few more chances go a miss (naming no names).  What a well fought victory this was, and Bournville take 6 points from 9.  Rodger claims MOM and DOD, for creating and then missing so many chances respectively.
