Promising performance to start pre-season

It was an early away start for the freshly formed Bournville Mens 1st side, debuting James Halle-Smith (CB), Declan Bradley (CDM), Callum Sutcliffe (CAM), Ali Fraser (LM), Dil (CF), Alex Jenkins (CF), Sam George (RM) and coach Bobby. High spirits in the changing room before the game, ready for a tough battle against Rugby hockey club for their first pre season game.

An evenly matched battle between the two sides saw the first quarter through 0-0 and Bournville looking dangerous with numerous chances and multiple short corners. Going into the second half confidently Bournville were ready to push for the win, a slight lapse in concentration saw a pass to the forward line of Rugby. Adam Parsons, in fine form stood no chance against the quick shot from the forward line, leaving Bourn 1-0 down. Heads remained high as Alex Jenkins fired multiple shots at the home keeper, brilliant support from the midfielders, Declan, Sam, Ali, Sam and Dil gave the forwards Benno and Alex great support from the middle of the park.

The Bourn defence playing well, tiring the Rugby forwards with their high pace transfer, pushed the team higher to look for a goal in the 3rd quarter. Drag-flickers james and toby, had multiple discussions about how to beat the in form Rugby keeper.

The home team saw themselves capitalising on a break in concentration, finding a quick break from the half way line on the pitch seeing a 2-0 lead. Shortly after, Bourn shifted up a gear to prove they deserved a win and the score wasn’t representing the game well. New Captain Dan Mac motivated the team to keep moving forward and looking for opportunities.

A quick bit of skill from Declan saw 2 players wondering where and how they ended up behind him, slinging it out wide to JC creating acres of space. Benno came short for the quick pass, a solid turn and unreal bit of skill saw 4 players guessing as he drover hard into the D. Smart thinking and top class play from the forward won Bournville win a short corner. James stood tall at the top of the D firing the ball to striker Alex Jenkins, seeing a composed reverse flick finish into the top left corner. 2-1 Rugby.

Coming towards the closing points in the game, Benno managed to intercept a poor pass made in the defensive half. A quick look to see the goal predator that is Alex Jenkins leading high 1 on 1 against the keeper, saw an unreal pass up the pitch, the ball was held up well and squared to supporting forward, only to be blocked heroically by the Rugby defender by a sliding save in-front of the empty goal!

Unfortunately an undeserved loss to Bourn, 2-1, but looks promising for the season to come as the new talent proved themselves today with incredible performances.

Man of the match- Alex Jenkins
Fool of the day- Elliot Bennett (was late because he was getting a mayo chicken for 99p)
