New Junior Players Welcome
Bournville HC has a flourishing Juniors section. We have training every Tuesday evening running from 6:30 - 7:30pm led by England O55 player, Adrian Bailey.
We are always looking to welcome new players. Do you play at school and want to play more? Perhaps you've never played before but want to make new friends and try a new sport? Contact a member of the club listed below or feel free to turn up at a training session.
11-a-side matches are played on a friendly basis every Saturday against other clubs in Birmingham/Warwickshire. The set up includes 2 experienced adult players that will support the juniors on the pitch whilst also teaching them some important skills and helping them to become good effective team players.
For the older juniors aged 14-16, we encourage the transition into Adult Hockey, supported by a mentoring system with the club's top players, and plans to re-start a Fathom team for occasional friendlies. Both the men's and ladies teams are ready to welcome youngsters ready to start playing adult hockey.
Any child MUST wear shin pads and suitable footwear for sport played on an astroturf. Gum shields are strongly advised, but we can provide sticks if necessary. No previous playing experience is necessary.
If you are interested in playing, please email Richard Baller firstname.lastname@example.org
Season Report 2015-16
Badgers enjoyed another successful season with a great squad of Boys and Girls from ages 11 up to 16. It was our first season on the Central Conference of the newly split 3 leagues instead of 2. The standard continues to improve yet the team won 13, drew 2 and lost 7 games through the season.
We picked up a number of new players and many more who came to the Tuesday night training sessions, for which I have to thank Adam and Matt form the 1st Team, and especially Adrian and Helen Bailey who made special trips from her studies at Worcester University by train to take charge of the older group - The club and the Badgers are very grateful for Helen's efforts and enthusiasm.
Can I also thank all the parents, especially to Sue Mason-Burns and Helen Whitehouse for their support whenever they could (every weekend in Sue's case). Also can I thanks all the umpires who offered their services and umpired in the right caring spirit that young players need, and to Stuart Knox who stood in for me when I was on umpiring duty myself.
We say goodbye from the squad to Fergus Roll and Josh Appleby who's standard became strong enough for them to be promoted to the Adult squads at the age of 13. Fergus is now showing the 3rds how to play and Josh won most improved player of the year.
3 others have now had their last Badgers season and we wish their hockey to continue to flourish in the senior teams: - Our captain Peter Whitehouse (Player of the Season) who played with great responsibility and sportsmanship, Jose Andres who will do well at adult level with his speed and stamina and Josh Agathanggelou who has enjoyed 4 or 5 great seasons with the Badgers.
