Former Chairman passes away following a brave battle with cancer.

It’s with great sadness we write to tell you that Brian Grainger, a life member of Bournville Hockey Club, has passed away after a brave battle with cancer.

Many current and past club members will remember Brian. He was a generous and kind soul, somebody that always saw each day as an adventure. A real passion for finding the fun in everything he did: Brian exemplified living life to the full.

Brian was an active member of the club in the early 60’s and played in all of the teams, but was at his best in the 2s and 3s where he encouraged young players to progress. Brian’s contribution to the club included as Chairman and social secretary and he was responsible for organising many successful dinner dances over the years. Brian loved hockey tours and many members may recall fond memories at Worthing Hockey Festival and further afield at Frankfurt. Brian was somebody who enjoyed making friends and his hockey connections were plentiful, mostly made after the game in the bar.

For those of you who knew Brian and would like to donate to Marie Curie, who helped him and his wife Michelle considerably over the last few years, please follow this link: https://briangrainger.muchloved.com/

Bournville Hockey Club would like to pass on our condolences to Brian’s wife, Michelle and his daughters Vicky, Jane and Madeleine-Rose and the wider family. He will be so sorely missed.
